In new court documents, we now know the step-by-step of what exactly happened before and after Alec Baldwin shot the gun on the set of ‘Rust', killing the director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, and injuring Joel Souza, the director.
In the court documents he said that before Alec shot the weapon, they heard someone (allegedly the assistant director) shout “cold gun”, which means that a gun is safe to use on the set. The gun apparently had been checked before their lunch break and Joel doesn't remember if it was checked when they returned to the set.
Reid Russel, one of the cameramen working on the set when the accident happened, told authorities:
Alec was trying to explain how he was going to draw out the firearm and where his arm would be when the firearm was pulled from the holster.
Joel says that Alec pointed the gun directly at the camera and pulled the trigger, and to his and everyone's surprise, something shot out of it and hit Halyna in the chest and Joel in the shoulder.
According to him, who was bleeding from his shoulder after also being hit, Halyna put her hand on her midsection and started stumbling backwards. The crew around her grabbed her and helped her lay down on the floor as she was saying she couldn't feel her legs. Paramedics rushed to her aid and started treating her while she continued to bleed on the floor. She was airlifted to the hospital and eventually passed away there.
