Bruce Lee's daughter lashes out at Tarantino: 'I'm f*cking fed up'

Shannon Lee, daughter of the legendary actor and martial arts expert, once again defends her father's figure against Tarantino's criticism as a result of the 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' novel.

Quentin Tarantino has been promoting his novelization of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which we have talked about in Vandal Random, a literary work that includes new sequences and details of some of the most controversial and mysterious footage. As has happened in the past, the fight between the character of Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) and Bruce Lee (Mike Moh) has once again uncovered criticism between Tarantino's vision and his family. The director has been clear but Lee's family is not willing to be compared to Charles Manson and his obsession with Hollywood or belittled as a person. And she has exploded.

Shannon Lee, who lost her father at the age of 4, lashes out at Tarantino

Shannon Lee, who has written a lengthy column in The Hollywood Reporter, has been harshly critical of Tarantino's vision. "While I appreciate Mr. Tarantino so generously acknowledging Joe Rogan that I may have issues with his portrayal of my father, I also appreciate the opportunity to express it: I'm fucking sick of white people in Hollywood trying to tell me what Bruce Lee was like," she wrote. According to her, people did not know her father, and have questioned a figure who was very important during the sixties and seventies in Hollywood. "It's absurd that he was arrogant, when they have no idea and can't understand what it would have been like to get a job in '60s and '70s Hollywood as a Chinese," she explains as she discusses racism in the industry.

"I am tired of white men in Hollywood mistaking his confidence, passion and skill for arrogance and therefore deem it necessary to denigrate him and his contributions. I understand what Mr. Tarantino was trying to do. Cliff Booth is a killer who can beat up Bruce Lee. Character development, I get it. But I think he could have done a lot better. The scene he created was just a pointless insult to Bruce Lee. It was white Hollywood treating Bruce Lee like, well, white Hollywood treated him like an expendable stereotype," he concluded. Shannon Lee again brings to the fore the issue of harassment of Asians in the United States, who are being physically attacked in the United States. And incidentally, she sends a message to the director of Pulp Fiction, pointing directly to one of his capital works.

"Why do you talk as if you know Bruce Lee and hate him? It's strange since you never met him, right? Not to mention that Mr. Tarantino dressed the Bride in an imitation of my father's yellow jumpsuit, and to the 88 maniacs dressed in the style of Kato in Kill Bill, something that many saw as a love letter to Bruce Lee, "he wielded. A few days ago, we learned that Uma Thurman came to hate The Bride's yellow jumpsuit. "You don't have to like Bruce Lee. I really don't care if you like him or not. You made his movie and now you're clearly promoting a book. But in the interest of respecting cultures and experiences you may not understand, I encourage you to stop making comments about Bruce Lee and reconsider the impact of his words," he concluded devastatingly.
