Taylor Swift is no stranger to controversy (she'll be the first to tell you about it in her songs!). But unfortunately, that also applies to her fashion choices.
As Swift underwent a serious transformation over the years from innocent, star-eyed country singer to pop megastar, her looks inevitably changed as well. Long ago were the days when we could trust her to show up to an awards ceremony in a prom dress and cowboy boots. "I put the tape of my life forward and I don't wear the things that my kids or grandkids would make fun of me for wearing, [like] 'Wow cool mom, cool cowboy boots you wore constantly in 2006!' , he teased (perhaps famously) Glamor in 2014.
Alas, that certainly happened a long time ago in pop culture discourse, and while we love how far Swift has come and how each album essentially comes with its own era (including fashion), there are bound to be a few steps in fake on the way And she just hasn't been able to hide from the ridicule and backlash that she has quickly ensued in some cases. It's nothing the headstrong queen of pop can't handle, but she reads on for Swift's most inappropriate outfits she's been caught wearing!
Taylor Swift dressed in the dark?
Did she ever wake up late and struggle to get dressed only to realize much, much later that maybe her shirt was inside out, her pants were unbuttoned, or her shirt was inside out? Well, if so, you're in very good company.
We hate to say it, but as Buzzfeed reported, Taylor Swift was guilty of committing that kind of fashion faux pas back in 2014. As the story goes, Swift was spotted at a Knicks game with Justin Long wearing what appeared to be a Red. mock neck sweater There's only one problem: she had it on backwards. One Tumblr account chose to subtly inform the masses that the star might have made a little mistake. “Taylor is wearing a 525 America sweater when she left her apartment last night – on her way to a Knicks game! Her burgundy sheer sweater here is actually a reversible piece with Taylor opting to wear the cut-out collar for the front and the turtleneck for the front. “said the post. In other words, the neck cut was supposed to be reversed. You get it.
Immediately, Swift learned of her mistake and took to Tumblr (very 2014) in a since-deleted post (via Insider) to confess to her transgression. "I think what they're trying to say politely is... I put my shirt on wrong, didn't I?" Stars: They really are just like us!
Taylor Swift raised eyebrows at the 2016 Grammys
Remember when Taylor Swift raised a few eyebrows at the 2016 Grammy Awards? The general consensus was that Swift made a fashion no-no on the red carpet as she paired a coral pink tube top with a long fuchsia satin skirt (orange mixed with pink!?). To round out her look, the skirt included a daring slit up to the inner thigh. Perhaps this was a case of color blocking gone completely wrong?
Billboard compared the two-piece fashion to the infamous "10 Things I Hate About You" prom dress, while one Twitter user compared her outfit to that of a 1990s Flutterbye Flying Fairy toy. Unfortunately, it seems that her hairstyle, a very blunt bob, only made things worse. Swift was immediately compared to the Vogue editor everyone loves to hate, Anna Wintour. "Shout Anna Wintour for opening @TheGRAMMYs...she killed it," Complex tweeted at the time.
It's okay, Tay Tay. Not every fashion lewk is going to be a hit! That's what all your songs are for!
Taylor Swift's Folklore Merchandise Got Her In Trouble
Perhaps one of Taylor Swift's most controversial fashion choices is one that she wasn't necessarily caught wearing... but one that she helped design. With the surprise release of her beloved album, "Folklore," the queen of marketing and merchandising also launched a line of merchandise that included sweaters and sweatshirts emblazoned with the words "the album of folklore" on the top corner.
As reported by Glamour, a black businesswoman named Amira Rasool came forward on Instagram and revealed that the logo Taylor Swift's outfit used bore an uncanny similarity to that of her own brand, The Folklore. "This morning, I noticed that the musician #TaylorSwift is selling merchandise to accompany her new album Folklore de Ella. She currently sells products with the words 'The Folklore' printed on them. Based on the design similarities, I think the merchandising designer ripped off my company logo.Rasool posted on his Instagram account on July 24, 2020.
Fortunately, the response from Swift and her team was…well…Swift (See what we did there, one more time?) and the problem was fixed. "Amira, I admire the work you are doing and am happy to make a contribution to your company and support the Black in Fashion Council (launching August 3) with a donation," Swift wrote.
