Colin Trevorrow, the film's director, elaborated on the scene: "The idea was for Chris to surprise her in front of 200 people...and that's the shot that's in the film."

Murray was the one who decided to give his partner a final kiss that was not in the script. Sofia Coppola, the film's director, commented on this scene: “I remember sometimes Bill would goof off at Scarlett, and it was fun to get her reaction. It was a tender goodbye where they both knew they had touched in some way."

It was Amy Adams who had the idea of ​​kissing her partner, who in the film plays the wife of her lover. She discussed it with the director and he agreed, but Lawrence's performance surprised them.
