Amber Heard accuses Johnny Depp of sexual assault with a bottle at the beginning of the media trial
The actor denied claims his ex-wife made in a Virginia court this week.
The beginning of the trial between Amber Heard and Johnny
Depp for defamation is leaving shocking statements in its first days. The
actress accuses her ex-partner of having sexually assaulted her in extreme
situations and the actor denies such claims.
The judicial confrontation has its origin in the complaint
filed by Depp, 58, against his ex-wife, 35, for an opinion article that she
wrote in 2018 in The Washington Post referring to herself as a "public
figure victim of abuse". domestic". The actor's legal team says the text
falsely suggested that Depp physically and sexually abused her while they
were married, and that the allegations hampered her Hollywood career.
One of the most tense moments in front of the audience took
place this week when the actress's lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft, claimed that
Heard was held in 2015 in a house in Australia and abused for three days.
She “backed her up against the bar. She threw bottles at him. She dragged it
across the floor with the broken glass. She hit her. She told him that she
hated her. And then he penetrated her with a bottle, "said the lawyer.
Depp's lawyers and representatives immediately denied the
alleged facts. “These fictitious accusations were not made at the start of
Amber's allegations in 2016 and only conveniently surfaced years later when
she was sued for defamation because she claimed in her text that she was a
victim of sexual violence. Words are key in defamation lawsuits and it is
interesting that this accusation came only after that. This follows the
pattern of her elaborate and false claims, which have changed and evolved
over time for the purpose of the Hollywood-style shock that Amber has
mastered and used within a serious social movement to achieve (referring to
Me Too)." Depp's attorney, Camille Vasquez, told the jury.
“Heard never made that charge against Depp, this was never part
of her 2016 abuse allegations. So what has changed? When he realized the
seriousness of what he was claiming, he panicked and cited sexual assault,"
Depp's lawyer added, continuing: "In 58 years of his life, Depp has never
been accused of violence by a single woman. And no one in Hollywood or the
world had any reason to believe he was an abuser, until Mrs. Heard publicly
accused him."
In addition, the actor's legal representatives argued
that it would have been Heard who "resorted to physical violence." About
this, they indicated: “she threw things at him, hit him and told him that he
was a coward, that he was not man enough because he did not want to fight
with her. She humiliated him, yelled at him and he tried to calm her down.
This was constantly repeated. She tried to deal with it by running away from
her, like she had when he was a child, but it only infuriated her. She and
her lawyers will tell you stories of horrible abuse. They are designed to be
explosive.”
In another episode of the trial, Depp's lawyers stated that the
other party seeks to use his "real fight against drug use" against the
actor. In this regard, the actress's lawyer pointed out: "You will hear the
testimonies of the therapists admitting that it is wrong but it is like a
demon and he sees his wife Amber as his mother and his sister, whom he
hates. Amber decided to stay and try to solve the problem. She thought that
she could fix it if she could cleanse herself of the consumption. She tried,
she went to therapists and a marriage counselor.”
Among the first witnesses present at the trial was Christi
Debrowski, sister of Johnny Depp, who revealed that Heard disqualified her
brother by calling him "fat and ugly." And she said, “This is etched in my
memory. One time I was in the office, I had a meeting with Dior who wanted
to sit down with Johnny and talk about working together.
Amber came in and asked if she was interrupting us, we told her no. Johnny told Amber that he had just had a meeting with Dior and that they were interested in him. Her reaction to that was disbelief and disgust. She said: 'Dior? Why would Dior want to do business with you? They are class and style, and you don't have that, 'recalled the actor's sister. “I have heard the insults from him many times. She called him old, fat,” she added.
The trial is being held in the Fairfax County Circuit Court in
Virginia (United States) and will be televised on Court TV for the planned
six weeks. Celebrities will pass the stand as witnesses, such as Elon Musk
(Heard's ex-partner), James Franco, Jason Momoa or Paul Bettany.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard met while filming The Rum Diary
(2011) and married four years later. The couple separated in 2016, after
which Heard filed a domestic violence restraining order against Depp,
accusing him of abusing her.
