Maisie Williams explains thst Scene of Arya from Game of Thrones "I thought it was a joke"
With just two episodes, the final season of Game of Thrones has already left behind some surprising and revealing moments. But the second chapter included a very important passage for Arya Stark that fans do not stop talking about.
Arya didn't want to spend what could possibly be her last
night conversing with the Hound, so she meets Gendry at her forge for a
possible passionate farewell with him. Little Stark is already a woman and
she did not want to leave this world without discovering sex, so she turns
to her old friend, the bastard son of Robert Baratheon.
Maisie Williams, who plays Arya in the series, has assured that
she was excited to shoot this scene. But she didn't know anything about the
sequence until her friend Sophie Turner, who plays her sister Sansa in
fiction, told her to read the script.
"I called Maisie and said, 'Have you read it yet?'" Turner
revealed to Entertainment Weekly. "And she's like, 'I'm in the middle of the
first episode.' And I was like, 'This scene, this page, read it! This is
amazing!' She was very happy," revealed the actress.
"Sophie said, 'Whatever you do, you should skip to this
episode, this scene first.' So I just finished reading that and it was
pretty much everything I knew about the season," Williams recounted.
"At first I thought it was a joke. I was like, 'Yeah, this is
really good.' And [the creators] were like, 'No, we haven't done any jokes
this year,'" she added.
Williams realized they weren't kidding around when it came time
to read the script as a group. "I got to the reading and thought, 'Oh, we're
really going to do this. When am I going to shoot it? I have to go to the
gym, a whole list of things,'" she joked.
But despite the excitement, there were many doubts
surrounding said scene. After all, Williams was 11 years old when she
started working on the series, and since then she has grown up in front of
the cameras so she, along with showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss,
they planned how to approach this passage of Arya to adult life.
"David and Dan said, 'You can show as much or as little as you
want,'" Williams revealed. "So I pretty much kept my privacy. I don't think
it's important for Arya to show her body. It's not really about that. And
everyone else has already done it on the show, so…" she added.
"It was really interesting because it's a very human relationship for
Arya," the actress explained. "This is something that she has stayed away
from, an emotion that we have never seen her engage with. David and Dan
said, 'It's the end of the world, what else do you want me to do?' This may
be the moment where Arya accepts death tomorrow. So it's that moment where
she says, 'We're probably going to die tomorrow, I want to know what this
feels like before it happens.' It's interesting to see Arya be a little more
human, speak more normally about the things that people fear," said the
actress.
But, what will happen to the new couple after this unexpected
encounter? There are only four episodes left to find out.
