Euphoria premiered its second season a couple of weeks ago and, although
each chapter has brought surprises and unexpected twists, N-dity has been a
constant in each of them. This time the character played by Sydney Sweeney,
Cassie, has had several n-des that have caused viewers of the series to
wonder if they were really necessary. In fact, the actress revealed that
director Sam Levinson had more scenes of this type planned for her role, but
assured that he had the freedom to decide whether he did them or not.
"Sam
is amazing," Sweeney said in an interview with The Independent. "There were
times when Cassie would have to be shirtless but I would tell her, 'I don't
think that's necessary here.' And he was like, 'Okay, we don't need it. I
never felt like Sam was pressuring me or like he was trying to put N-dity on
an HBO series. When he didn't want to do it, he didn't make me”.
The actress of Everything Sucks! She also talked about feeling
comfortable on the set of Euphoria, as in other projects she has
participated in she has felt “unpleasant” and uncomfortable with her
co-stars or with the crew itself. “I didn't feel like my character had to do
it and that made me even more self-conscious. I didn't feel like I could
speak it," she asserted.
So far in the new season, her character
has had much more prominence than in the first part of the show, for which
she criticized the fact that viewers have focused more on her n-de scenes
than on her performance.
“I am very proud of my work in Euphoria, I think it is a great
interpretation of her but nobody talks about her because I got n-ked,” she
reflected. "But I do The White Lotus and all of a sudden all the critics pay
attention, people start loving me and saying, 'Oh my God! What will you do
next?' And I'm like, 'Haven't you seen Euphoria? Didn't you see that in The
Handmaid's Tale?'
Sweeney was also critical of the stigma
attached to actresses who decide to strip on camera: “When a man has a s-x
scene or shows his body, he continues to win awards and is praised. But when
a woman does it, it's completely different.” In January, Euphoria returned
for its second season after a two-year wait. In addition to Sweeney, the
show stars Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira, Jacob
Elordi, and Angus Cloud.
