Jennifer Aniston criticizes double standards on women
According to an interview given by Jennifer Aniston to the Hollywood Reporter, she no longer takes personal rumors about her, her personal life or her sentimental status, she even criticized the situation of women in the artistic medium.
Aniston went on to criticize "double standards" when it comes
to portraying women in the media, noting that "men can marry as many times
as they want, they can marry younger women in their 20s and 30s."
"Women can't do that. Men in their 30s, by the way, are very
different from men in their 40s and 50s," she continued.
"And
even in my late 20s, it's a whole new world that I'm discovering is alive
and well."
Aniston has always been in the public eye, which
has caused multiple speculations about her personal life, her romances and
her relationship with motherhood with either Brad Pitt or Justin
Theroux.
She however says she stopped taking the "just disgusting"
pregnancy rumors personally, as the star candidly reflected on the pressures
she has faced to have children.
"People certainly project on you and all that, but my job is to say,
'Listen, I'll show you what I'm capable of and you decide if you want to
subscribe,'" she said.
"So, you disappear as much as you can, you have fun, you take
on these weird roles, you don't give a fuck, you have fun."
"I used to take it all very personally — the pregnancy rumors
and the whole 'Oh, she chose career over kids' assumption. It's like, 'You
have no idea what's going on with me personally, medically, why I can't ...
can I have children?' They don't know anything, and it was really painful
and unpleasant."
The Emmy winner blamed the tabloids but said the culture of
public scrutiny has "changed hands" with the rise of social media in recent
years.
"What the tabloid press and the media did to personal life
back then, ordinary people are doing now," she said.
"Even though
I haven't seen a tabloid in so long. Am I still having twins? Am I going to
be the miracle mom at 52?"
