Kourtney Kardashian and the meaning of her wedding dress
Kourtney Kardashian tells Vogue that designing her wedding dress with Dolce & Gabbana was 'a dream come true'. Here the details of the garment.
This Sunday, Kourtney Kardashian married Travis Barker in Portofino, Italy.
What is the meaning of Kourtney Kardashian's wedding dress?
The bride wore a one-of-a-kind Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda
satin and lace corset mini dress inspired by 1960s Italian lingerie, all
accompanied by a sweeping veil. On the headdress were hand-embroidered
flowers inspired by the many Mediterranean gardens of the coastal city, as
well as a representation of the Virgin Mary. The religious iconography,
based on one of Barker's tattoos, is accompanied by text that reads 'I
respect family loyalty'. She teamed it with a pair of tulle gloves and lace
heels. "Designing my dresses with Domenico and Stefano has been a dream come
true in every way," Kardashian tells Vogue. Barker's black double breasted
suit was also designed by the Italian house.
The couple selected fashion photographer, Ellen Von
Unwerth, to capture her nuptials portraits.
The wedding took place at Villa Olivetta, a house on the
idyllic estate of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The
turn-of-the-century dwelling includes a crenellated watchtower, alfresco
dining terraces and sweeping views of the sparkling Mediterranean. On the
hillside grounds are olive, eucalyptus, and cypress trees, romantic
pathways, and fences made from natural knotted branches. As for the
interiors? Unsurprisingly, they make a stylish maximalist statement: Vogue
managing editor Hamish Bowles compared the aesthetic to 'Alice falling into
surreal wonderland at the bottom of the rabbit hole' when he visited in
2005.
The assistants? The extended Kardashian family, including
sisters Kim, Khloe, Kendall, Kylie, children Mason, Penelope and Reign, as
well as mother Kris. Kim and Kylie's eldest children, North and Stormi,
respectively, also made the trip, as did Barker's son Landon, her daughter
Alabama and stepdaughter Atiana De La Hoya.
The Sunday nuptials were the pinnacle of a multi-day
Dolce Vita event: The weekend kicked off on Friday with a welcome dinner at
Ristorante Puny, followed by a boat trip on Saturday afternoon.
Weeks earlier, the couple attended a final fitting at the Dolce
& Gabbana atelier in Milan, where they tried on their custom looks under
the gaze of Domenico Dolce.
