Michelle Rodriguez threatens to leave the 'Fast and Furious'
Taking advantage of the fact that 'Fast and Furious 8' has gone on sale on digital platforms, Michelle Rodriguez has made a surprising statement in which she threatens to leave the saga. She wrote this on her Instagram account: "I hope they decide to show some love to the women of the franchise in the next one, or I may just have to say goodbye to a beloved franchise."
Rodriguez played "Letty" in five of the eight films that have
so far formed the saga led by Vin Diesel. Interestingly, Letty was left for
dead in the fourth installment but was "resurrected" in the subsequent
sequel, a move that is already part of the madness allowed and applauded by
fans of the franchise. The strange thing is that the actress asks now,
facing 'Fast and Furious 9', more love for women...
A month ago, Michelle Rodriguez already expressed her
concern about the macho tone of 'Fast And Furious'. In an interview for
EntertainmentWeekly she said that she had a "macho '90s vibe" that while it
was justified at first because it portrayed a "violent underworld," her hope
was that the series would evolve. Something that has not happened, she says,
for reasons such as the success in China, where "the vast majority of the
population are boys."
'Fast and Furious 8' ('The Fate of the Furious',
2017) grossed 1,238 million dollars worldwide, becoming the 11th
highest-grossing film in history. I may be too suspicious, but I'd bet
Rodriguez is pushing for a bigger slice of the pie before signing on for the
ninth installment. Either that, or she hadn't seen any movies in the
franchise until now. What do you think?
