Why is Gigi Hadid so skinny? With this message the model responds
Gigi Hadid has previously been criticized for being a curvy model. Now, the
problem is that according to some internet users, she looks too skinny.
Has
the model succumbed to the pressure of the strict beauty standards in the
industry?
Gigi Hadid herself took on the task
of silencing those who criticize her body through her Twitter account.
According to the model, her body is changing due to
a condition that affects her thyroid called Hashimoto's disease or
Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
She thus clarified it in a series of tweets,
and she left out the speculations about drugs or excessive diet, as a cause
of the change in her appearance.
“For those of you who are so determined to find out why
my body has changed over the years, you may not know that when I started my
career, at 17, I was not yet diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease. ; those of
you who called me ‘too big for the industry’ were seeing swelling and water
retention because of it,” she said in her first tweet.
She then explains that she has been on
treatments to balance her thyroid levels and she points out:
“I
may look ‘too skinny’ for you, but honestly, this skinny guy is not what I
want to be; however, I feel healthier internally and am still learning and
growing with my body every day, just like everyone else.”
Hadid asks everyone to be more empathetic and
stop talking about rumors of this type, because she thinks she should not
defend or explain her body to anyone, much less silence speculation about
whether she uses drugs.
"I won't further explain what my body looks like, because
it doesn't fit your expectation of 'beauty,' I shouldn't have to. Not
judging others, but drugs are not my thing, please stop putting me in that
box just because you don't understand the way my body has matured."
Many other celebrities applauded her response, and
of course, if Gigi is absolutely right, people can be very prejudiced and
the pressure within the fashion industry often gets out of control, so
models have to raise their voices to put curb such demanding beauty
standards and, above all, the privacy of their own body.
