A former manager of Tom Cruise broke the silence and revealed how difficult it was to work with the actor
Eileen Berlin worked alongside Tom Cruise in the early years of his career and recalls that the actor had a very bad temper and was always on the verge of exploding.
Tom Cruise is one of the biggest movie stars in the
entire world. For decades, the actor has fronted a host of feature films,
turning them into immediate box office hits. His power seems to never end
and that is due to his talent and the dedication he has made to the
profession.
However, not everything is rosy for the protagonist of Top Gun
and Mission Impossible. Despite all the success and having worked with some
of the most acclaimed directors in cinema, Cruise has also earned a
reputation that has backfired at times, landing him in headlines and being
the target of a great deal of rumours.
Although no one doubts his talent and ability, he has
sometimes been listed as one of those actors who can be a bit difficult to
work with. Especially because of his explosive personality. In 2006,
Paramount Pictures decided to go their separate ways with Tom Cruise and his
production company Cruise/Wagner Productions. At that time, the argument had
been the controversial behavior of the actor, especially for his publicized
defense of Scientology and the denunciation of the use of antidepressant
medications.
In a recent interview with The Daily Mail, the actor's
former manager, Eileen Berlin, spoke about Tom Cruise's personality and his
apparent explosive behavior that has been talked about so much. Berlin was
Cruise's first manager for the early years of his career until shortly after
the release of Top Gun in 1986.
“Tommy had many faces, you see it in the photos. There is
contempt, arrogance, frustration, charm, sadness. I saw him in all those
moods. What I have never seen is a real display of happiness in Tommy. He
was always very, very ambitious, very, very determined to be a star. And
that made him a perfectionist," said Eileen, who represented him during his
early rise to stardom.
"Tommy had a terrible temper. He harbored a lot of anger
towards his natural father. He was in a bad mood and would be angry in an
instant. It was as if something was on fire and was going to boil and
explode," the 82-year-old woman told the magazine. British publication,
something he attributes to his budding insecurity.
She remembers the time for his 19th birthday when he presented
her with an album of all the advertising articles in teen magazines. This
not only sparked the anger of the actor, who told him that he did not want
to be in such posts since he considered himself an adult, not a teen idol.
So the actor ended up throwing the album at Eileen and hitting her in the
face.
This is not the first time that Cruise has been in the
news because of his temperament. In December 2020, during the filming of
Mission Impossible 7, an audio was revealed that hinted at the actor's
volatile personality. There he could be heard yelling at the members of the
shoot for not respecting the health protocols imposed due to Covid-19.
Tom's reputation for being highly controlling would also have
been one of the obstacles in Universal Pictures' plans for the development
of The Dark Universe, since during the production of The Mummy, released in
2017, the interpreter took creative control over it. . It was recently
reported that Paramount Pictures was planning to release Mission: Impossible
7 on Paramount Plus about 45 days after its theatrical release. Apparently
this did not please Tom Cruise, so shortly after, the studio confirmed that
the release of the film in streaming would take time to arrive and thus have
more time to shine at the box office.
The actor can next be seen in Top Gun: Maverick which will hit
theaters at the end of May this year, while Mission Impossible 7 will arrive
in July 2023, and Mission Impossible 8 will arrive in June 2024.
