How did the fight between George Clooney and Russell Crowe start?
Considered one of the most outstanding stars of the cinema, Clooney exchanged several barbs with Russell Crowe, actor of Gladiator
George Clooney starred in several films throughout his
career, and formed friendships with Hollywood's biggest stars - except
Russell Crowe. The two actors have a feud that has lasted more than 15
years.
Russell Crowe is known for his role in Gladiator - which
Clooney tried to star in but was not chosen. According to the Cheatsheet,
George Clooney explained to Esquire that the fight is not about the role,
but with a comment made by Crowe in 2005:
“He started it off by saying, ‘George Clooney, Harrison
Ford and Robert De Niro are sold out. He chose to fight me. He started for
no reason,” said the star. Clooney explained that he responded to the
Gladiator actor:
“I released a statement saying, 'He's probably right. I'm glad
he told us, because Bob, Harrison and I were also considering starting a
band, which would also be considered celebrity misuse. And that's when he
really pissed off [and said] - 'Who the hell does this guy think he is? He's
a wannabe Frank Sinatra.'"
The nagging continued, and Clooney replied again to Crowe: “I
sent him a note saying, 'Man, the only person who succeeds when two famous
people are fighting is People magazine. What the hell is wrong with
you?'”
Crowe then apologized to George Clooney - and for
that, he used poetry: "The truth is, he sent me a book of poems to apologize
for insulting me deeply, which he did," said the star.
