They point out that Scarlett Johansson won the Disney trial thanks to another Marvel Studios hero
Recent information suggests that the success of the latest Marvel
Studios movie was the definitive test for Scarlett to win her lawsuit
against Disney for the premiere of Black Widow in theaters and Disney +.
Recently
the unexpected trial between Scarlett Johansson and Disney came to an end,
achieving satisfactory results for both parties.
The actress who gave life to Black Widow since 2010 with her
first appearance in Iron Man 2, sued the mouse company due to the parallel
premiere of her solo movie. The company launched the film in theaters and at
the same time on the streaming service, Disney + through the Premier Access
system. This presentation caused a drop in the film's collection, which
directly affected Scarlett's salary.
Johansson's legal action helped change the studio's stance, as
Marvel Studios' upcoming release, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,
was only released in theaters.
Now that the litigation is over, new details come to
light, one of them is that the film of the new hero of Marvel Studios,
helped Scarlett in the final result of the trial.
According to
the Puck News site, industry insider Matthew Belloni commented that
Shang-Chi's strong performance at the box office supported Scarlett's
arguments in the case.
The film directed by Destin Daniel Cretton became the first
release in the pandemic to exceed $200 million in grosses in North America,
Black Widow only narrowly managed to reach $183 million.
The argument is that if a new character with her origin story
as Shang-Chi can draw audiences in mass numbers, then the Avenger solo movie
should, hypothetically. have much better performance.
"It didn't help Disney's overall cause that Shang-Chi, a
'minor' Marvel title starring a largely unknown actor that premiered over
the usually inactive Labor Day weekend, has overtaken Black Widow at the box
office. The difference? Shang-Chi was a theatrical exclusive, of course. So
that's a point for Johansson."
It can be said that Shang-Chi not only stopped the Ten Rings,
but also took it upon himself to save an Avenger.
