Production on 'Being Normal' has been halted following a complaint against
Bill Murray, who has been accused of "inappropriate behaviour" on set.
After
announcing the suspension of the shooting of Being Mortal, a film directed
by Aziz Ansari (Master of None), the reasons behind this decision have come
to light. Production has apparently been halted following a complaint
against Bill Murray, who has been accused of "inappropriate behavior" on
set.
According to Deadline, the complaint was filed last week and
production of Searchlight was suspended on Monday, April 18. “The decision
has been made to suspend production while the investigation is carried out
and the next steps are decided. The cast and crew received the information
about the suspension in a letter sent by the studio,” the publication
says.
At this time it is not known if Murray will continue to be
involved in the project. Sources close to the production have confirmed that
neither the filmmaker Aziz Ansari nor the actor Seth Rogen are part of the
complaint filed against the interpreter.
The film is based on the book Being Mortal: Medicine and What
Matters in the End, an essay by Atul Gawande. In addition to directing,
Ansari also writes the script and participates as an actor. Additionally,
the cast includes Keke Palmer, Jimmy Walker Jr., Paul Ford, Kevin K. Tran,
and Evan Shafran. Filming began on March 28 and the film is scheduled to be
released in 2023, although it is not known if the suspension will affect the
release date.
It's not the first time Murray has struggled on set. Lucy Liu
spoke publicly about her confrontation with the interpreter on the set of
Charlie's Angels. The actress told the Asian Enough podcast that the cast
was rehearsing a scene that Murray was unable to present due to a family
commitment. When Murray returned to the set, he began "hurling insults" at
his partner. “Some of his language was inexcusable and unacceptable,” she
commented.
