ADAM SANDLER has come under fire from angry viewers of The Graham Norton
Show for repeatedly touching Claire Foy's knee in the latest episode of the
BBC One chat show.
The American actor, 51, was seen placing his
left hand on The Crown star's knee at numerous points during the
interview.
Claire, 33, seemed to be squirming and at one point
even lifted her hand off her lower thigh and placed it on her own leg.
Married father Adam, who has starred in Hollywood comedy films
such as 50 First Dates and The Wedding Singer, seemed oblivious to Claire's
reaction from him and instead continued with his story from her.
Adam
also put his hand on Emma Thompson's knee who was sitting on the other side
of him.
However, viewers of the BBC show didn't miss the
"awkward" scene and flocked to Twitter to discuss the moment.
One
wrote: "Adam Sandler touching Claire Foy's knee for no reason, she puts her
hand back from her, then he does it again, she looked rightly p***ed
off."
Another added: "Claire For replacing Adam Sandler's hand onto
his own knee rather than hers, was the perfect 'haha don't touch me again'
move."(sic)
A third fumed: "Felt very uncomfortable watching Adam
repeatedly put his unwanted hand on the knee of Claire Foy and the wondrous
Emma Thompson."
The Daily Mail reports that Adam's
spokesperson said his behavior was "a friendly gesture".
Although
the show faced some criticism for the scenes, others seemed to enjoy the
sofa's guests, with one posting: "Great line-up tonight!"
Another said: "Oh I like Claire Foy… Thanks Graham!"
Despite
viewer reaction, The Crown star was not offended by the gesture and a
spokeswoman for the actress said: "We don't believe anything was intended by
Adam's gesture and it has caused no offense to Claire."
Meanwhile,
a representative for Sandler said that the actor's gesture had been "blown
out of proportion."
