After some photos with offensive banners addressed to the 44-year-old
singer spread on the Internet.
According to photos shared on
social media, one of the banners read "Shakira a La Jonquera". La Jonquera
is a place located on the border of France and Spain, and has one of the
largest brothels in Europe.
The Sun reported that the banner was
held by a group of Paris Saint-Germain fans. The team is scheduled to face
Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League today, March 10th. As is known,
Shakira's husband, Gerard Piqué, plays for the Barcelona team. However,
Piqué, who has two children Shakiran, is not expected to play in the match
due to a knee injury.
This is not the first time Shakira has been targeted. In 2012,
photos of fans walking around a n*ked doll spread and Shakira's name was
written on the back after Real Madrid won the Spanish league title, which
Barcelona had won for the last three years in a row. Banners pointing to the
music star were also seen at a 2016 game.
After these photos
reappeared, fans of the artist turned to social media to criticize this
behavior.
"It's 2021 and they still make disgusting sexist
comments on banners, sexist applause for it ... It's a regular occurrence
over the years," a follower wrote on Twitter. "She does not deserve it, like
any woman. We must not stand idly by and accept that she is degraded.
#RespectShakira."
Such comments in defense of Shakira invaded Twitter. While on
the part of the singer or footballer Piqué there was no
reaction.
