Heard played the female lead opposite Depp in The Rum Diary in 2011. The movie wasn't really a success, but the actress' romance with the A-lister made her even more popular. The two started dating in 2012 after Depp's long-term relationship with Vanessa Paradis. Depp and Heard kept their relationship private until 2014 when People reported that they got engaged. They tied the knot in the actor's 44-acre private island in the Bahamas in February 2015. That year, Heard had successful film releases such as Magic Mike XXL, The Danish Girl, The Adderall Diaries, and One More Time.
In 2016, Heard filed for divorce from Depp, citing
"irreconcilable differences." That same month, she also filed a temporary
restraining order against him. The petition contained a photo of her with
multiple bruises on her face which were allegedly caused by Depp. She later
told The Hollywood Reporter that their relationship was "intensely
passionate and at times volatile" and that it was "always bound by love."
They reached a $7 million divorce settlement on August 16, 2016.
In 2018, Heard wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post titled, "I
Spoke Up Against Sexual Violence - And Faced Our Culture's Wrath. That Has
To Change." The following year, Depp filed a defamation suit against Heard
over the article. In April 2022, their defamation trial began. So far, the
court has already discussed Heard's alleged affair with Elon Musk and that
time she allegedly pooped on Depp's bed.
Will Amber Heard Appear On 'Aquaman 2'?
Fans petitioned to remove Heard from Aquaman 2 as soon as they
heard the tapes of her admitting to hurting Depp. Recently, it was announced
that the actress now has significantly reduced screentime on the DC film.
But some fans don't think it's enough. "I find it funny that Warner Brothers
thinks just cutting Amber Heard's scenes in Aquaman 2 to just 10min of
screen time, somehow makes up for the fact that they refused to fire, and
stood by a serial domestic abuser. #JusticeForJohhnyDepp," wrote one on
Twitter.
Another fan even said that they should recast Heard's role. "What I don't get is if her role can be reduced to 10 minutes, why not recast Mera and reshoot the scenes?" they tweeted. "Yes, it would require bringing actors back and using some CGI trickery, but if Ridley Scott can do it weeks before his movie hits theaters, WB can do it with 10 months to go." What do you guys think?
