The 52-year-old actress played neat-freak Monica Geller in the popular 90s
sitcom which ended 13 years ago.
Talking about her most famous
role that permanently affected her life, she admitted she was very “lucky”
to be a part of the phenomenon.
“I just felt so fortunate, it was the greatest thing,” Courteney told
Off Camera with Sam Jones.
“All these opportunities opened up and
we were so lucky. I was able to buy a house, it was just a perfect time I
think.”
Courteney starred on the show for ten seasons alongside
Jennifer Aniston (who played Rachel Green), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay),
Matthew Perry (Chandler Bling), David Schwimmer (Ross Geller), and Matt
LeBlanc (Joey Tribbiani).
The mother-of-one revealed that she remains close with her
co-stars as the show took up a “big chunk” of their lives.
She
continued: “Life was happening, people were getting married and having kids…
we went through ten years together, and it was such an intense time.
“That’s
why we’re so close even if we don’t all see each other. The girls see each
other all the time.
"That was a big chunk of our life, and
everything changed, but we were just really fortunate.”
The Scream star also recalled how the Friends cast and crew
helped her through some of her darkest days when her father Richard passed
away.
She found out the devastating news that he had cancer when
she was on her way to work and, after putting on a brave face during the
live show, the producers were there for her.
Courteney continued:
“They were so great to me. We went through the show, I was in a terrible
frame of mind, I couldn’t remember my lines, and I wasn’t there.
“Warner Bros put me on a plane right afterwards to go see my
dad.”
The actress acknowledged that Friends still plays a huge
part in people's lives more than 20 years after its pilot episode.
She
added: “I do notice that people still love it. It just worked, the casting
was perfect.
"I worked with these five other actors that were
just phenomenal."
