We’re officially fans of all things Zendaya. Along with her epic sartorial sense and willingness to try any hairstyle once, we love that the 19-year-old actress seems more mature and grounded than people twice her age. Take Giuliana Rancic, the Fashion Police host who used a tired stereotype to make fun of Zendaya’s locs at the Oscars. Zendaya responded with such dignity and class that Giuliana almost shed actual tears in her apology. Now Zendaya’s speaking out for body acceptance after a magazine airbrushed her hips and torso in a recent shoot.
She took to Instagram to call out Modeliste magazine for
its excessive use of Photoshop: “Had a new shoot come out today and was
shocked when I found my 19 year old hips and torso quite manipulated. These
are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic
ideals of beauty that we have. Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for
honest and pure self love. So I took it upon myself to release the real pic
(right side) and I love it. Thank you @modelistemagazine for pulling down
the images and fixing this retouch issue.”
Celebrities like Ellen Pompeo and Rumer Willis rallied behind
Zendaya on social media and the magazine eventually removed the airbrushed
image. Can we just go ahead and nominate Zendaya for President? #Zendaya2020
