During a recent Reddit AMA, Jonh Wick: Chapter 4's Keanu Reeves
confirmed the hero he's always wanted to play in the Marvel Cinematic
Universe.
Actor Keanu Reeves has confirmed the one Marvel
character he'd most like to play in the MCU. While the popular Matrix and
John Wick star has had talks with Marvel Studios in the past, he's yet to
have an official role as an Avenger or otherwise in the MCU. However, it
seems as though it will only be a matter of time given his eagerness for one
hero in particular.
Taking part in a Reddit AMA to promote John Wick: Chapter 4,
Reeves was asked if there's ever been a role he's regretted turning down.
While Keanu claimed there wasn't, he did reveal the Marvel superhero he's
wanted to play over the years:
"…No…but I did always want to play Wolverine."
Having teased his Wolverine interest before, it's exciting to
see Reeves doubling down considering Marvel Studios now has the rights to
the X-Men franchise and has already begun introducing mutants into the MCU.
However, Deadpool 3 is set to feature Hugh Jackman's return as Wolverine
alongside Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson in the multiverse. That being said,
perhaps Reeves could debut as Weapon X afterward in the primary MCU.
Who Else Could Keanu Reeves Play In The MCU (Besides Wolverine)
While one could argue that Keanu Reeves may now be too old to play a
new version of Wolverine, the great thing about the X-Men's most popular
hero is that Logan's over 200 years old due to his impressive healing
factor. As such, the age range of actors who could play Wolverine is much
wider than for other heroes. However, there are other characters beyond
Wolverine whom Reeves could play as well. Case in point, Keanu also once
voiced an interest in playing Marvel's Ghost Rider, aka Johnny Blaze.
Having turned down the role of Captain Marvel villain Yon-Rogg in the MCU (which ultimately went to Jude Law), it appears as though Reeves is holding out for a larger role he can truly be passionate about. Furthermore, it's been implied that Reeves has a strong ongoing relationship with Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios who are seemingly just as interested in bringing him into the fold at some point down the line. If not to play Wolverine, then hopefully a hero or villain with just as much name recognition and the same intensity belonging to many of Reeves' biggest roles such as Neo or John Wick.
While nothing has been confirmed thus far for Keanu Reeves and
his potential future in the MCU, it's great to see that he's still
interested. It's also evident that Wolverine (or someone similar) is a large
preference for the actor. If not Wolverine, here's hoping Marvel Studios can
find Reeves the perfect hero to play in the near future.
