Acting pair lost contact as a result of the incident
It was the slap which rocked the world, Will Smith taking to the Oscars stage and slapping the host, Chris Rock, yet it has permanently damaged his relationship with Tom Cruise.
Whilst it's unclear what their relationship was beforehand, it's understood that ever since the incident, Cruise has rejected any form of contract from Smith.
He hasn't responded to any of the text messages Smith has sent to the Top Gun star.
"Will has approached Tom several times trying to reconnect and see if they can hang out and brainstorm on some projects together," an insider told Radar Online.
"A solid movie with Tom would guarantee Will's comeback, or so he thinks.
"Will has even offered to fly to London if that's more convenient, but Tom isn't biting and doesn't even write him back, he's not going to be stupid enough to put his neck on the line and be dragged down by association."
Cruse is wary of Hollywood
Whilst there has been a concerted effort on the part of Cruise to avoid a relationship with Smith since the Oscar's incident, it isn't uncommon for him to snub A-List friendships.
"Tom is still very wary of any Hollywood friendships," the insider continued.
"He likes his reclusive lifestyle in the United Kingdom.
"He doesn't want to get sucked back into the Hollywood scene, especially by way of Will Smith."
