The 50-year-old singer, who met his much younger wife after falling ill after a gig in Plymouth, compared Leo's age-gap relationships to his own
Peter Andre has defended Leonardo DiCaprio's tendency to date younger women as he opened up about his marriage with Emily MacDonagh. The singer, 50, compared Leo's previous relationships to his own following rumours the Hollywood actor was dating Love Island host Maya Jama.
He spoke about his successful marriage with Emily, who is from Taunton, despite there being a 17-year age gap between the pair. Peter went on to explain how the pair have known each other for 13 years and believes age "doesn't matter" when it comes to love.
As reported by The Mirror, earlier this year Leonardo and
28-year-old Maya were spotted enjoying time together on a number of dates. A
source claimed that the actor, 48, sent the Love Island host a bunch of
flowers after mutual friends introduced them. Leo has since denied the
rumours.
The Mysterious Girl singer said in his OK! column:
"Although she’s 28, 20 years his junior, you can't help but admit that Leo
looks awesome. As you all know, Emily and I have been together for nearly 11
years and have known each other for 13 years."
He added: "Even
though she is younger than me, I don’t think age matters as we are so happy
together!"
Peter and Emily tied the knot in 2015 at Mamhead House
in Exeter, Devon. They have two children together, eight-year-old Amelia and
Theo, five. The pair met after Peter fell ill at Plymouth Pavilions during a
gig - and the rest was history.
A source previously told The Sun: "Maya and Leo are in regular
contact and have been on a string of dates. They have both recently come out
of long-term relationships so neither of them are rushing into anything —
they are having fun and seeing how it goes."
"They live in
different countries and Maya has had a long distance relationship before
and knows it's tough, so they are taking things a day at a time. Leo has
certainly been wooing her though, he loves spending time with her."
