Brendan Fraser isn't rushing to take on his next movie role following his big win at the Academy Awards.
Veteran actor Brendan Fraser is taking a small step back from acting for the time being, not eager to jump into another major movie role until he finds one that's just right. At the end of last year, Fraser's film The Whale was released, instantly bringing about widespread acclaim for the actor. That would also lead to Fraser winning a variety of awards for his performance in the film, culminating with the win for Best Actor at the Academy Awards in March.
Per People, Fraser addressed what he wants to do moving forward
in a new chat with Hannah Storm at the Greenwich International Film
Festival's Inspiration Talk an award ceremony. After joking that it "might
be a long summer," because of the WGA strike, saying he's "going to have to
pick up a picket sign," the actor clarified that he does not have any other
movie roles in the works at this time. He's in no apparent rush to get cast
in something new unless there happens to be something else as intriguing as
The Whale that comes along.
"At the moment, I don't have anything
— I'm really being picky right now," Fraser said.
However,
there's still more for Fraser's fans to look forward to. He previously
completed his work on Martin Scorsese's latest film Killers of the Flower
Moon, which also stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. The film is set
to have its World Premiere at Cannes this month ahead of its wider release
in theaters.
"I will tell you that I'm excited to see it myself," Fraser
says of the movie, though he notes that he isn't in it for long. "We were
working in a really hot weather in Oklahoma, and I can't oversell my
participation in this film because it's epic. There's so many actors in this
movie when you see it. I'll arrive for a scene or two at the end."
Brendan Fraser Isn't Rushing Toward Another Role
While he isn't rushing to getting cast, Fraser has teased at least one project he would be open to doing. He recently said he's up for collaborating with Best Actress Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh on a new sequel to The Mummy. That's something many fans have been wanting, given the rising popularity of legacy sequels coupled with the resurgence in love for Fraser.
“Sounds like fun," he said to EW. "I’m always looking for a
job. If anyone’s got the right conceit. I think I’ve never been as famous,
and never been as unsalaried at the moment as I am right now. So spread the
word.”
Killers of the Flower Moon will have its World Premiere at
Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2023, followed by its theatrical release on
Oct. 6, 2023. The actor is also attached to the upcoming comedy Brothers,
which will feature him alongside Josh Brolin, Peter Dinklage, Taylour Paige,
an Glenn Close.
