Ons Jabeur, the defeated finalist at Wimbledon, experienced deep sorrow
after what she described as the "most painful loss" of her career. However,
amidst her heartbreak, the presence of the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton,
brought some comfort and solace.
In a touching display of empathy, Kate Middleton embraced the distraught
Tunisian player after her crushing 6-4, 6-4 defeat against Marketa Vondrousova
on Saturday (AEST). Jabeur was overcome with tears as she missed her third
opportunity to win a slam final, but the kind gesture from the royal patron of
the All England Tennis Club offered a moment of compassion.
Having watched the match from the stands, Kate Middleton then went down to the
court to shake hands with all the players. However, she went a step further
with Jabeur, offering a sympathetic hand and trying to uplift her spirits with
a friendly comment.
In response to Kate's actions, Jabeur recounted, "She didn't know if she wants
to give me a hug or not. I told her hugs are always welcome from me. That was
a very nice moment, and she's always nice to me. She encouraged me to be
strong, to come back and win a Grand Slam, win a Wimbledon. Obviously, she was
very nice."
The Princess of Wales' genuine compassion and encouragement have left a positive impression on the tennis community and fans alike.
