She portrayed the Marvel superhero’s love interest Mary Jane in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. The 2002 action fantasy film became the most financially successful film of her career at the time, and it also contributed to her popularity and growth as an actress.
After starring in the first two movies, she was once again set to reprise the role of Mary Jane in Spider-Man 3. However, as the filming came to an end, she was tired of just sitting in her trailer, leading her to feel depressed and exhausted from just doing nothing.
Kirsten Dunst Got Depressed Working on Spider-Man 3
During an interview with MTV News, Kirsten Dunst talked about her not-so-pleasant experience working on Spider-Man 3. The actress shared that as the filming came to an end, she was forced to sit and wait in the trailer, leading her to feel depressed as she returned home after work.
The Melancholia star shared that she spent three weeks just sitting in the trailer, feeling “arduous and depressing” as she waited for her scenes. She said, “As it came to the end of our film, it was like these three weeks of sitting in the trailer, just zoned out on MTV.”
The Hidden Figures actress also shared that occasionally she would get called for her scenes that would last only for “the blink of an eye.” She further mentioned how just sitting and doing nothing took a toll on her, and she returned home feeling depressed. Fortunately, Dunst had someone by her side to console her at the time.
Kirsten Dunst’s Friend Helped Her to Feel Better
During her interview, Kirsten Dunst also shared how her friend helped her to cope with her depression at the time. She shared that she was living with a friend who also worked in the entertainment industry and had similar feelings toward their job.
The actress shared both of them returned super-bored and depressed from their job and shared their experience. The Bring It On star shared that she and her friend used to “vent about their work experiences” as they drank “pinot grigio and [watched] American Idol.”
Dunst shared that they had the “worst time” for those three weeks, but she is thankful she had someone by her side. Although she did not enjoy those three weeks, she is proud of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and has expressed her wish to star in a fourth Spider-Man.
