Taylor Swift purchased the three-story townhouse, which is located in
Tribeca, for $18 million back in 2017
Taylor Swift is reportedly
in trouble with the city’s Sanitation Department as she racked up $3,000
fines.
According to a report by the New York post, the
Grammy-winning artist has been fined, for a total of $3,010, failing to
clean the area in front of her building, having a dirty sidewalk, and
improperly disposing of garbage, between January 2018 and January
2023.
The Anti-Hero singer, 33, purchased the three-story townhouse, which
is located in Tribeca, for $18 million back in 2017. She later converted the
property into a private entrance for her penthouse, which is located
directly next door.
Then, the singer ended up spending almost $50
million to develop the luxury buildings, and is solely responsible for
keeping the space in front of the townhouse clean.
The outlet
cited city records which stated that over the years that the trash in front
of the property included piles of newspapers, bottles and cardboard; napkins
and wrappers; and “scattered ashtray contents” and a cigarette carton.
Swift, however, is fighting back the charges with the help of
her legal team. She even managed to shake off $200 in penalties, the outlet
reported.
Following the news, many fans came to the defence of
the singer.
Many of them noted that while since the singer is
currently on her Eras world tour, it’s impossible for her to be the one
littering. Fans pointed out that the trash is likely from the fans and
paparazzi that swarm her house.
“It’s probably the fans waiting
for her and smoking while they’re bored,” Christine O’Connor, 33, said. “She
doesn’t even smoke!”
“ah yes pop superstar taylor swift who is
currently on a world tour leaving cigarette packs on the streets of new york
historically known for having clean sidewalks,” one user tweeted.
“the
woman cannot get to and from her car every day without being hounded by
paparazzi and fans…are you seriously expecting us to believe she is smoking
a cigarette out there?” said another.
