Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, is said to be deeply affected by
Meghan Markle's recent statement during her interview with Oprah Winfrey.
According to a royal expert, Middleton was "mortified" by Markle's revelation
and the ensuing media attention surrounding it.
In the interview, Markle asserted that Middleton had made her cry over
flower-girl dresses chosen for her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, contrary to
earlier reports that suggested the opposite. This claim left Middleton shocked
and distressed, as she had never wanted any hint of a rift with Meghan to
become public, according to royal author Katie Nicholl.
Nicholl further explained, "Kate is known for her discretion and her respect
for her personal life. She rarely, if ever, has public disputes with anyone
because she is very mindful of how she treats others. So, for this story to be
circulating is very hard for her. Kate believed the matter had been resolved,
so to have it brought up again was mortifying."
Adding to Middleton's distress is the fact that Meghan and Harry made the
claim publicly, and Middleton is not in a position to respond to the
allegation. The Buckingham Palace expert highlighted that no other public
verification of this incident has been provided.
Meghan, during her interview with Oprah, shared her side of the story,
explaining that it was actually Middleton who made her cry over the
flower-girl dresses. She mentioned, "It was a really hard week of the wedding,
and [Middleton] was upset about something, but she owned it, and she
apologized, and she brought me flowers and a note."
Behind closed doors, Middleton is said to have been saddened, disappointed,
and hurt by the couple's comments. She and her husband, Prince William, had
extended a warm welcome to Meghan and Harry when they joined the royal family,
and they view any accusations against the monarchy as personal affronts. While
they still care for Harry and Meghan, the interview has undoubtedly strained
relations.
Prince William, in particular, is reportedly very upset with his brother and
viewed the Oprah interview as a breaking point in their already troubled
relationship. Despite the anger and hurt, both William and Kate are said to
desire a resolution to the ongoing feud.
The revelations made in the Oprah interview have clearly created significant
tensions within the royal family, and the path to reconciliation remains
uncertain.
