Taking to their official social media accounts, the Royal Family shared a major milestone in the life of the 74-year-old monarch, accompanied by an underwater picture, with the caption: "King Charles is the first British monarch to be a qualified diver.
In 1975, at the age of 26, His Majesty embarked on a half-hour dive beneath the Arctic ice at Resolute Bay, Canada.
"Years later, The King completed nine dives to explore the Mary Rose, Henry VIII’s warship, before it was raised from the seabed in 1982."
Providing details of the King's recent visit, the Palace reported: "Today, at the Global Underwater Hub (GUH) in Aberdeenshire, His Majesty was briefed on the center's educational outreach initiatives and witnessed firsthand the operation of an underwater ROV (remote operating vehicle).
The King toured exhibitions showcasing underwater diving technology, underwater 3D image capturing, and eco-friendly artificial reefs that contribute to subsea protection and enhance biodiversity.
The GUH stands as the foremost trade and industry development organization for the UK's underwater sectors, representing a wide range of businesses operating in the industry and highlighting crucial work in offshore energy, aquaculture, defense, and telecommunications.
During the visit, the King added a touch of humor as he entered the room wearing his traditional kilt, eliciting laughter from the gathered crowd. He also engaged in conversation with Mike Jones, the managing director of Soil Machine Dynamics, and was introduced to an underwater remote operating vehicle.
