Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas have chosen to break their silence by releasing a joint statement on social media confirming their divorce. In their Instagram post, the former couple shared that this was a united decision to mutually bring an end to their marriage.
Their statement read, "After four wonderful years of marriage, we have mutually agreed to amicably end our marriage. While there are many speculative narratives as to why, truly, this is a united decision. We sincerely hope everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children."
Reportedly, Joe and Sophie, who exchanged vows in 2019, have disabled comments on their post.
Prior to this statement, Joe had officially filed for divorce from Sophie, with legal documents stating that their relationship is "irretrievably broken."
The announcement followed revelations from a close friend of Sophie, who shared with MailOnline that "Sophie feels trapped in her marriage to Joe Jonas and regretted missing out on her youthful, carefree years after tying the knot with him and having two children at a young age." The friend also disclosed that the couple began experiencing problems the previous Christmas, and Sophie separated from Joe at the beginning of the summer, spending subsequent months in the UK.
