In an interview with Vulture about their tour, Alice Cooper, 75, shared that he didn't closely follow Johnny Depp's televised trial in Virginia. The trial concluded with a verdict on June 1, 2022, finding Amber Heard liable for defamation concerning her 2018 op-ed about abuse allegations.
Depp, 60, was touring with musician Jeff Beck in the UK during the trial, and they later settled and dropped their appeals, with Heard, 37, paying Depp $1 million in damages.
Cooper explained that Depp's legal situation did not significantly impact the Hollywood Vampires tour. For Johnny, the focus was on their performances and music, and he wasn't preoccupied with the trial.
According to Cooper, Depp's attitude was, "Yeah, yeah, what’s the next song?" He questioned the decision to televise the trial, attributing it to the fame of both parties involved. Cooper mentioned that they didn't discuss the trial during the tour as it was not a topic of interest to anyone, and he felt that the situation had been sensationalized and turned into a Hollywood spectacle.
When asked about his thoughts on the trial's outcome, Cooper expressed confidence in Depp's victory. He noted that it was clear because many of Depp's former partners testified on his behalf, which is unusual in such cases.
Cooper said, "I knew Johnny was gonna win because how many people have other exes literally on their side testifying for him? That never happens." He emphasized that when Depp was on stage, he was fully dedicated to his role as their guitarist.
Despite Depp turning 60 during the tour, there were no extravagant celebrations. Instead, he had a low-key dinner with his bandmates in Istanbul, Turkey. Depp had rescheduled some performances due to a fractured ankle he sustained in May, prioritizing his health. The source shared that he was taking better care of himself, acknowledging that he couldn't maintain the same pace as he did in his youth.
The Hollywood Vampires summer tour included multiple shows across Europe and the US, concluding with their last performance in Bethel, New York, on July 30.
