Meghan Markle and Oprah Winfrey have emerged as potential successors to
Dianne Feinstein's Senate seat.
Following the passing of Senator Dianne Feinstein, there is growing speculation about who will step into her shoes, with high-profile individuals like Oprah Winfrey and Meghan Markle reportedly in the mix.
While Oprah's name has been circulating as a possible replacement, she made it
clear in May that she was not entertaining the idea of filling the vacant
seat, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
The responsibility of appointing someone to complete the remaining 13 months
of Feinstein's term now falls on Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom,
who has previously expressed his commitment to appointing a Black woman to the
Senate in the event of Feinstein's passing.
Governor Newsom, who has been linked to national aspirations, including rumors of a potential 2028 presidential run, has stated unequivocally that he will not challenge President Biden in 2024.
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has also emerged as a name in consideration for Feinstein's potential replacement. She and Prince Harry currently call Montecito, California, their home.
