Meghan Markle has been the subject of speculation regarding her potential
entry into politics, particularly following the passing of senior California
Democrat Dianne Feinstein at the age of 90.
Meghan has previously expressed interest in politics, including her lobbying
efforts on the topic of 'paid paternity leave' in 2021. With Feinstein's
passing, Meghan, who has received political advice from California Governor
Gavin Newsom, has reportedly been receiving calls and discussions about the
possibility of her running for office in the 2024 election.
A Democratic donor suggested that while Meghan's candidacy might be considered
a long shot, it is not impossible in the current political landscape in the
United States. He mentioned that "crazier things have happened."
Royal biographer Tom Bower previously stated that Meghan was attempting to
enter the political arena, and this ambition might become more apparent in "a
year or two."
Nick Bullen of True Royalty also expressed curiosity about the prospect of Meghan making a bid for the White House, especially in light of the ongoing royal rift.
Reports in April indicated that Meghan had hired Katie McCormick Lelyveld, former press chief for Michelle Obama, further fueling speculation about her political aspirations.
