Royal commentator Gareth Russell, in conversation with GB News, highlighted the difficult King Charles faces, especially considering the couple's outspoken criticisms and revelations about the royal family. Russell revealed that initially, King Charles had hoped to welcome back the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as part of his vision of him for a streamlined monarchy.
However, the landscape has shifted due to the couple's subsequent controversial statements. The possibility of welcoming Prince Harry and Meghan back has become increasingly challenging for Prince Charles, who, in 2020, had envisioned a scenario where his younger son and daughter-in-law might choose to return to royal duties.
"Regrettably, the events that unfolded in the two or three years since that announcement have made the prospect very challenging," added Russell.
