Speculation has grown as the incident reignited a contentious issue within the British monarchy, stemming from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's explosive revelations about the royal family in their interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Scobie, also known as Meghan's "mouthpiece," claims that the identification of the royals in the Dutch version was a "translation error" in his critique of the Windsors.
"I can only comment on that manuscript – which does not name the two individuals who took part in the conversation. I’m happy to hear that the error in the translation of the Dutch edition is being fixed," Scobie stated.
However, some royal experts remain skeptical, questioning the plausibility of "mistranslating two names." Critics, including royal commentator Michael Cole and veteran royal reporter Phil Dampier, express doubts about the explanation, considering the seriousness of the allegations and suggesting the possibility of a publicity stunt.
Dutch journalist Rick Evers, who read the translated version, also raised doubts, stating that it's hard to believe it was a translation error. He suggested that the names were present in Scobie’s original manuscript but were potentially removed due to legal advice.
The controversy has fueled discussions about the authenticity of the "printing error" explanation and whether it was a deliberate move to generate publicity for the book.
