Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner's Planned "Forever Home" in England Before Split

Legal documents filed by Sophie Turner and obtained by PEOPLE reveal that Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner had intentions of settling in England for good before their separation, just two months before the announcement of their split.

According to the documents, the former couple had identified their "forever home" in the United Kingdom. The Jonas Brothers singer, 34, and Game of Thrones actress, 27, had been actively searching for a permanent residence to raise their two children, 3-year-old Willa and another daughter referred to as "D" in previous court documents.

This search had been ongoing since December 2022 and continued until July 2023 when they entered into a contract to purchase a property. Jonas officially filed for divorce in early September.

After touring numerous properties together in England, they eventually discovered a "beautiful country property" in Oxford to serve as their primary family residence, as mentioned in the documents.

The couple was allegedly enthusiastic about the move for their family and eagerly anticipated watching their daughters grow up in the English countryside. Contracts were exchanged between them and the property sellers on July 7, with an expected completion date of December 2.

Jonas and Turner had been looking forward to spending the Christmas holidays in 2023 with their children, family, and friends in their new English home, according to the documents.

Before this planned move, the singer and the actress had been residing in Miami until April 2023 when they chose to relocate to a short-term rental in London. In August, they officially sold their completely redecorated six-bedroom mansion in Miami for $15 million.

Jonas filed for divorce from Turner on September 5, citing that "the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken" in the Miami filing obtained by PEOPLE.

The day after, they jointly posted on Instagram, announcing their mutual decision to amicably end their four-year marriage. They urged respect for their privacy and their children.

The divorce took a more complicated turn when Turner filed a lawsuit against Jonas, requesting the return of her two daughters to England. The lawsuit called on Jonas for the "immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained," citing a "wrongful retention" that began on September 20.

Following the lawsuit, a representative for Joe Jonas released a statement, mentioning a cordial meeting between the exes on Sunday in New York, where they discussed their co-parenting arrangements and reached an understanding to work together amicably.
