Actor Justin Theroux has finally opened up about the reasons behind his breakup with Jennifer Aniston in a recent interview with Esquire. The couple announced their separation in 2017 after two years of marriage, sparking numerous rumors and speculations.
Contrary to tabloid reports suggesting that the breakup was due to differences in lifestyle preferences, such as Aniston wanting to live in Los Angeles and Theroux in New York, Theroux clarified, "That’s a narrative that is not true, for the most part.
People create narratives that make themselves feel better or simplify things for them. That whole ‘This person likes rock ‘n’ roll, that person likes jazz. Of course!’ That’s just not the case. It’s an oversimplification."
Theroux emphasized that such narratives are an oversimplification of complex situations. Since their divorce, Aniston and Theroux have been photographed together at various events, and Theroux revealed that they have maintained a friendship.
He stated, "We don’t talk every day, but we call each other. We FaceTime. We text. Like it or not, we didn’t have that dramatic split, and we love each other. I’m sincere when I say that I cherish our friendship. We can not be together and still bring each other joy and friendship. It would be a loss if we weren’t in contact, for me personally."
Aniston and Theroux started dating in 2011 and got engaged in 2012. They tied the knot in a private ceremony in August 2015. In February 2018, they announced their separation, emphasizing that it was a mutual and loving decision, and expressed their intention to continue their cherished friendship.
