Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, speaking to the Daily Express, weighed in on the prospect of the Sussexes receiving an invitation to the royal holiday at Sandringham next month.
While reports indicate that King Charles has already dispatched invites to the extended family for RSVP, the former royals seem to have been omitted from the guest list.
Fitzwilliams emphasized the current focus on whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been invited to join the royals at Sandringham for Christmas and, if invited, whether they would accept.
"They certainly won't get an apology for the way they think they were treated when senior working royals," Fitzwilliams remarked, pointing to the lingering issues surrounding the couple's departure.
However, the expert highlighted an additional concern: whether the Royal Family deems the Sussexes trustworthy.
Fitzwilliams noted that, while the 75-year-old monarch would undoubtedly relish the opportunity to see his grandchildren, the actions of Harry and Meghan have complicated the prospect.
The parents of Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2, last spent Christmas with the Royal Family in 2019 before relocating to the United States a year later.
"It would also be highly beneficial to the royals if they could guarantee that sniping from the Sussexes would stop," Fitzwilliams added, underscoring the importance of rebuilding trust for a potential reunion.
