As the heir to King Charles III, Prince William deviated from convention when he proposed to Kate Middleton in 2010, marking precisely 13 years since the couple publicly announced their engagement on November 16, 2010.
While at a secluded log cabin near Lake Rutundu, Prince William, in a candid moment during the official engagement interview with journalist Tom Bradby, shared his unconventional thought process: "I was torn between asking Kate's dad first and the realization that he might actually say 'no' dawned upon me. So I thought if I ask Kate first, then he can't really say no. So I did it that way round."
Despite the departure from tradition, the engagement proceeded smoothly. William explained, "I managed to speak to Mike soon after it happened, and then it sort of happened from there."
Kate promptly accepted the proposal, and Michael was reportedly delighted that his daughter was marrying William, whom she had met at the University of St Andrews in 2001.
While the engagement defied tradition, William and Kate, often hailed as the most popular royals, officially announced their exciting news at St James Palace on November 16. Kate proudly displayed her stunning engagement ring, once belonging to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. The couple tied the knot at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011.
