The disappointment felt by Queen Elizabeth II towards Meghan Markle and
Prince Harry is revealed in the aftermath of their decision to step down from
senior roles within the Royal Family.
Despite the couple having visited the UK only three times since their
departure, a royal expert claims that the late monarch Queen Elizabeth II
extended multiple invitations to them. According to Katie Nicholl, author of
‘The New Royals,’ the Queen aimed to maintain a connection with the Sussexes
and even enjoyed video calls with Harry, Meghan, and their two children.
However, there were moments when the Queen felt hurt by the Sussexes, as per
Nicholl. The Queen, known for hosting a grand weekend sleepover for her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the end of August, specifically
invited Harry and Meghan. Yet, in the past couple of summers, they declined to
attend, leaving the monarch disappointed.
The absence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during Christmas and the summer gatherings at Balmoral since 2019 deeply affected the Queen. According to Nicholl, these instances, where the family did not come together during significant occasions, were particularly poignant for Queen Elizabeth II, leaving her genuinely hurt by their choices.
