In his provocative new book, "Endgame," released on Tuesday, Scobie contends that the King's "inept handling of the Harry and Meghan saga has effectively transformed the couple into the disruptors they were initially feared to become."
The 75-year-old King opted not to publicly support the Duke and Duchess of Sussex before their scathing remarks. According to Scobie, "Charles chose to remain silent and look the other way."
Rather than addressing the issues at hand, Charles, as described by the journalist—a close associate of Harry and Meghan—displayed a "stubborn" demeanor.
Scobie, once labeled as Meghan's "mouthpiece," elaborated, "For so long, Harry had emphasized that he and Meghan simply wanted to be acknowledged. They sought the opportunity to engage in a conversation about the past, understanding both perspectives, and chart a course for moving forward. For Harry, it was about accountability and, when appropriate, apologies."
Scobie believed that there existed a chance for the King to mend any emerging divisions, stating, "Stubborn as ever, this was the one concession Charles refused to grant them—even if it meant risking harm to the Crown."
