King Charles and Queen Camilla to Address Criticism with Australia Visit

In an effort to mend relations and address criticism, King Charles and Queen Camilla are reportedly contemplating a visit to Australia, marking their first trip to the country since ascending the throne. The potential visit is said to coincide with King Charles's attendance at the Commonwealth Summit in Samoa in October.

ITV's royal editor, Chris Ship, speculates that the monarchs might integrate a visit to Australia with their journey to the Pacific for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled for October 21, 2024.

While Buckingham Palace has yet to formally confirm the visit, an unidentified former diplomat informed the Sydney Morning Herald that "King Charles is planning to visit Australia and New Zealand in October."

The proposed trip, if materialized, would be King Charles's first to Australia and New Zealand since 2018 and his first visit to the region as the reigning monarch. The royal couple faced criticism for their limited visits to Australia and New Zealand in recent years.

Though details remain unconfirmed, an Australian government source expressed confidence in the potential visit, stating, "It's very possible it will happen, it would be around the time of CHOGM that he would come, either before or after, that would make sense." The visit aims to strengthen ties and address concerns about the royal family's engagement with the region.
