Prince Harry Awaits Verdict in Legal Battle Against Home Office

Following the conclusion of a two-and-a-half-day hearing at the Royal Courts of Justice, Prince Harry is now awaiting a judge's decision in his legal action against the UK's Home Office. Justice Lane will provide a verdict at a later date.

The Duke of Sussex, though not present in court, had his witness statement read on the last day of the hearing. His legal team challenges the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec)'s decision in February 2020 to alter the extent of his publicly funded security, arguing that it was 'unlawful and unfair.'

The majority of the proceedings were conducted in private due to the involvement of confidential evidence regarding security measures. Harry, who relocated to Montecito with his family after stepping back as a senior royal, contends that his wife and children cannot 'feel at home' in the UK if their safety cannot be ensured.

In his statement, Harry expressed sadness at being forced to step back from his role, stating, "The UK is my home. The UK is central to the heritage of my children... I cannot put my wife in danger like that, and, given my experiences in life, I am reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm's way too." The outcome of this legal battle will have implications for the extent of Prince Harry's security arrangements.
