Prince William Dispels Doubts Surrounding Relationship with Kate Middleton

Amidst skepticism sparked by the fairytale portrayal of Princess Kate and Prince William's love story in The Crown, Prince William himself has seemingly put to rest any lingering doubts.

The Prince branded the meeting with Kate at their Scottish university as a 'great joy' in a resurfaced clip from his 2021 speech. Reflecting on his enduring connection to Scotland during his role as the Lord High Commissioner of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, he shared a mix of emotions tied to the country.

He stated, "Scotland is the source of some of my happiest memories. But also my saddest. I was in Balmoral when I was told that my mother [Princess Diana] had died."

In a widely circulated TikTok clip, the future King expressed finding 'comfort' and 'solace' in the Scottish outdoors, strengthening his bond with the Commonwealth country.

Amidst the poignant memories, he joyfully reminisced, "And yet alongside this painful memory, is one of great joy. Because it was here in Scotland—20 years ago this year—that I first met Catherine,” William gushed.

“Needless to say, the town where you meet your future wife holds a very special place in your heart,” he added.

The revelation comes as royal watchers cast doubt on the fateful meeting of William and Kate at St. Andrews University in 2001, following the airing of the second part of the sixth and final season of The Crown earlier this month.

According to the show, Kate’s mother, portrayed by Eve Best, played cupid in the royal romance, urging Kate to take a gap year and enroll in the Scottish institute in the same year as William, portrayed by Ed McVey.

Their friendship at the institute eventually blossomed into a long-lasting romance. On X (formerly Twitter), fans and critics shared their perspectives on the twist in the story. One suggestion was, “so will got with kate middleton cuz everyone at his college said she was hot and he was like “eh, ok” and she got with him cuz her mom plotted on it, like the crown really ruined any idea of a love story between them.”

The extent of truth in the depiction of this historical fiction drama remains unclear. However, the royal couple continues to dispel rumors with frequent tributes, reinforcing the belief that their union was destined, irrespective of external influences.
