Accused of orchestrating a media event in the aftermath of the tragic Robb Elementary School shooting in Texas, Meghan Markle received criticism for sharing photographs of herself laying flowers at a memorial in the town where the mass shooting occurred in May of the previous year.
A spokesperson for the former Hollywood actor clarified that Meghan's visit to Uvalde was a personal one, driven by her role as a mother seeking to offer support to a community grappling with "unimaginable grief."
Despite this explanation, social media users were quick to accuse Meghan of turning the crime scene into a photo op.
In a surprising turn of events, Brett Cross, the father of Uziyah "Uzi" Garcia, one of the victims of the shooting, came to Meghan's defense. In a post on X/Twitter, he expressed, "You're so far from the truth." Cross asserted that Meghan arrived without media and explicitly asked them to leave, emphasizing that she was not there for them. He also revealed that Meghan has maintained contact with his wife.
Contrary to the accusations, Cross stated that Meghan did not bring media with her during her visit to the town. He pointed out that both Texas Governor Greg Abbott and movie star Matthew McConaughey did, however.
In an interview with Newsweek, Cross expressed his frustration with the misrepresentation of Uvalde, stating, "I'm tired of people talking about Uvalde in ways that are not factual."
The tragic Robb Elementary School shooting occurred on May 24, 2022, in Uvalde, Texas, when 18-year-old former student Salvador Ramos fatally shot 19 students and two teachers, leaving 17 others injured.
