In Hardman's book on King Charles III, it is claimed that the late Queen was angered by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's decision to name their daughter Lilibet in 2021. The couple had asserted at the time that they had sought permission from the late monarch to use her nickname for their child, a claim disputed by Palace sources.
According to the alleged remarks from the late Queen, "I don’t own the palaces, I don’t own the paintings, the only thing I own is my name. And now they’ve taken that."
A royal source commented on the recent revelations, stating, "There’s no denying it is pleasing that the truth has emerged. [Harry and Meghan] attempted to railroad their version of events through, which weren’t accepted then and they are not now."
The source added, "You’ll find the silence [from the Palace] speaks volumes, but everyone is quietly celebrating this particular wrong being righted." The response from the palace, or lack thereof, is seen as a significant acknowledgment of the accuracy of the claims made by the late Queen's alleged anger.
