On Thursday, the anti-monarchy group Republic claimed to have reported Prince Andrew to the police, asserting that the authorities had not adequately examined the allegations, and urging the reopening of the case.
Addressing the speculations surrounding a potential new investigation, UK police released a statement on Friday, stating, "We are aware of the release of court documents in relation to Jeffrey Epstein." They added, "As with any matter, should new and relevant information be brought to our attention, we will assess it."
The statement from London's Metropolitan Police clarified that, at present, no new inquiry has been initiated.
However, Prince Andrew, the former husband of Sarah Ferguson, finds himself in a contentious position as he continues to make headlines following the unsealing of court documents last week, revealing names associated with Epstein.
Prince Andrew, the younger brother of King Charles and eighth in line to the throne, has consistently denied accusations of s-xual misconduct. In February 2022, he settled a US lawsuit brought by Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of s-xually abusing her during her teenage years.
While previous allegations from Giuffre and another Epstein accuser against the British royal have been reported before, the recently unsealed court documents provide further details on the extent of Epstein's alleged s-x trafficking activities. These revelations have reignited public interest and scrutiny surrounding Prince Andrew.
