Prince Harry and King Charles Reconciliation Touted as Last Resort to Restore Monarchy's Image

Amidst a decline in the popularity of the monarchy, mending relations between Prince Harry and King Charles is seen as a crucial step to salvage its image.

A YouGov poll from the previous year raised alarm over a negative perception of the monarchy, particularly among 50% of individuals aged 18 to 24, with 40% expressing support for an elected head of state.

Royal correspondent Jack Royston, writing for Newsweek, attributed the monarchy's current challenges to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's consistent criticisms of the royal family.

Royston proposed that a "major intervention," specifically a "rapprochement" between King Charles, Prince William, and the Sussexes, could be instrumental in addressing the situation.

Reports from In Touch indicated that King Charles and the Spare author had resumed speaking terms, especially after the fallout from Omid Scobie's book, Endgame.

While initially reconnecting around Charles's 75th birthday in November, Royston emphasized that a potential reconciliation "could benefit both sides," presenting the family as capable of resolving issues maturely without public conflict.

However, Royston acknowledged the significant demands Prince Harry might have for peace talks, including an apology and acknowledgment of his perspective on the issues. This could also involve reassessing the palace's relationship with the media, which Harry has been critical of.

Despite these potential demands, Royston suggested that meeting them might be essential for Charles and William to restore the monarchy's standing and regain public favor.
