Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Face Deadline Pressure as Netflix Deal Nears Expiry

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle find themselves in a precarious situation, urgently seeking content to safeguard their multi-million-dollar deal with Netflix.

Situated in Montecito, the royal couple is under scrutiny to deliver a standout show for their five-year contract with the streaming giant, initiated in September 2020 and set to conclude in 2025.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are feeling the heat as their "remaining agreement is contingent on their ability to produce captivating content," according to an insider cited by The Sun.

Initially enthusiastic about signing Harry and Meghan for their "stellar ideas," Netflix has only seen the production of two docuseries, namely Harry & Meghan (December 2022) and Heart of Invictus (August 2023), from the couple so far. Additionally, their movie project, based on Carley Fortune's novel Meet Me at the Lake, faced delays due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

As the clock ticks down on their lucrative deal, with nearly a year left, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams voiced criticism on GB News. While suggesting that the Sussexes can "turn it around if they come up with some work," he pointed out that, to date, they "have not done anything."

Fitzwilliams speculated on the potential fate of their Netflix deal, considering their prior loss of the $20 million Spotify deal in June 2023 after just one season of Meghan's podcast. The comments from Spotify exec Bill Simmons, dubbing the couple as "f---king grifters," raised doubts about the sustainability of Harry and Meghan's agreements. Fitzwilliams questioned, "They lost Spotify. Will they lose Netflix? The contract runs out in 2025."
