Queen Camilla Surprises Fans with Unconventional Choice for Reading Room Book Club

Queen Camilla, aged 76, has left fans surprised by selecting an unexpected novel, "The Lord's Day," for the next installment of her Reading Room book club.

The thriller, published in 2007, revolves around a plot where the late Queen and the-then Prince Charles are taken hostage during the State Opening of Parliament, sparking controversy due to its depiction of a security breach at the heart of Parliament.

Author Michael Dobbs shared his thoughts on Camilla's choice, stating, "I think it shows how inclusive and open-minded she is. This isn’t a fussy traditionalist; this is a Queen who has got her eyes open to the modern world."

He further expressed humility when considering the distinguished list of authors featured in the book club, noting, "When you look at the list of other books, you’re talking about the finest authors in the land. Some still alive, some dead. Dickens! So, in all honesty, it’s really humbling."

The Queen’s Reading Room charity originated from an Instagram book club established by Camilla in 2021 during the pandemic for literature enthusiasts. Now, following in the footsteps of Meghan Markle, the Queen has expanded the club by launching a new podcast.
